Life-changing: Local volunteers needed to support riders, horses & families

ABOVE: Getting to work with horses is an added bonus for volunteers.

Sunshine Coast Riding for the Disabled (SCRDA), an Award Winning Community Organisation, is seeking mature, dependable and compassionate people who would like to give back to their community in a meaningful way in 2026.

The association has vacancies for new volunteers and is offering Orientation & Induction on Monday 2nd February from 9am till noon.

Morning tea will be provided.

“If you have a few hours to spare each week, we would love to have you come along and join our team,” said secretary Jan O’Halloran.

Volunteering is sure to put a smile on your face. Pictured is Tessa with Tuffy.

“In return you will be rewarded with millions of smiles! Why should you consider helping at SCRDA? The horses’ gentle natures and rhythmic movements helped build physical strength, coordination and balance.”

Jan said riding stimulates core muscles, which can improve posture and mobility. “At the same time, the close bond formed with these animals promotes confidence and social interaction, which can have significant mental health benefits.”

Many riders experience reduced anxiety, improved focus and independence, with riding offering a unique blend of emotional, physical and developmental support.

“You don’t need to have horse experience, although it is an advantage, as SCRDA provides training,” Jan said.

If horses aren’t your forte, SCRDA have plenty of other jobs around the Centre that may suit you from IT, Social Media, Fund Raising, PR, Grounds Maintenance, Office Administration and more. Come along with closed in footwear, sun smart clothing and a big smile.

No need to book – just arrive at 9am on the Monday and you’ll be warmly welcomed.

Practical training will be offered in the days following and if you can attend some of those days, the better you will understand our programs and Centre.

You can find SCRDA at Monak Road, North Arm on the left hand side at the end of the road. For more information go to www.scrda.org.au.
