Watch: Teen arrested after alleged supermarket robbery sparks creek chase

A 19-year-old Nambour man has been remanded in custody after an alleged knife-point attempted robbery at a Mill Street supermarket sparked a police foot chase into a nearby creek.

Paulo Simon Alves Watts has been charged with one count each of attempted robbery threatening violence, possessing tainted property, attempted fraud and obstructing police.

Police allege the man entered the Nambour supermarket about 2.30pm on September 10, selected a number of items and approached an emergency exit.

When two staff members approached him, he allegedly produced a knife and threatened them before fleeing through the supermarket’s main entrance.

Neither staff member was injured.

Police located the man a short time later on Arundell Avenue, where he allegedly ran from officers.

A foot chase followed before the man entered a creek, where police arrested him.

The case was adjourned to September 28.
