A landmark Nambour Hotel has been given a new lease on life, with The Namba blending more than a century of history with a fresh focus on food, drinks, service and family-friendly hospitality.
Part owners Shayne Daniel and executive chef Wayd Bailey took over the business in mid 2024, renaming it The Namba, trading as Club Namba, and setting out to create a venue that feels welcoming to regulars, families, sports fans and visitors alike.
The grand colonial building at 80 Currie Street has long been part of the town’s streetscape, but Mr Daniel said many people were still surprised by what they found once they stepped inside.
“If you haven’t been in yet, you will surely be pleasantly surprised when you do,” he said. “We aren’t a typical pub, and we invite you to experience that difference for yourself.”
The team describes The Namba as “the people’s pub”, with its mix of cosy corners, larger dining spaces, a sports beer garden, kids room, function areas and a drinks list designed to offer something for every occasion.
Mr Daniel said one of the strongest pieces of feedback from patrons had been the sense of comfort and inclusion. “We’re proud to have created a venue where people feel comfortable whether coming in by themselves for a quiet drink or arriving with a large group of friends,” he said.
The bar offers 12 beers on tap, along with cocktails and wine, while recent changes have also included the addition of Keno to provide another entertainment option for guests.
The owners also want The Namba to be known for value, with food and beverage pricing pitched to make the venue accessible for locals looking for a casual meal, after-work drink, family outing or larger celebration.
In the kitchen, Mr Bailey has focused on lifting the food beyond the standard pub meal while keeping it generous and approachable.
“Our food is about giving people quality, flavour and value without losing what people love about a good local pub,” Mr Bailey said.
The menu is backed by what the venue describes as an outstanding food and beverage team, with function and dining areas available for celebrations, group bookings and special occasions.
For families, a dedicated kids room with toys and dress-ups gives children space to play while parents enjoy a meal. Sports lovers are also catered for, with a large screen in the sports beer garden creating a lively atmosphere for live games.
Mr Daniel said The Namba’s goal was simple: to honour the history of the building while offering a modern, comfortable venue for Nambour’s next chapter.
The Namba is at 80 Currie Street, Nambour. Open seven days from 11am. Email cheers@thenamba.com or phone 0435 262 995.
