Handmade with heart: Compass Wabi Sabi Creations opens new Nambour shop

Compass Wabi Sabi Creations showcases beautiful pieces made by Compass trainees, giving their creativity a place to be discovered and enjoyed.

Some gifts practically choose their own recipient. You spot a colour, a shape or a lovely handmade detail and immediately think, “That’s Mum,” or, possibly, “Actually, that’s coming home with me.”

At its new location at 89 Currie Street, Nambour, Compass Wabi Sabi Creations has plenty to catch your eye. The shop showcases beautiful pieces made by Compass trainees, giving their creativity a place to be discovered and enjoyed.

The name comes from the Japanese concept of Wabi Sabi, which appreciates beauty in imperfection. It is a lovely invitation to notice the character of handmade things: individual details, natural variations and the traces of someone’s work.

Choosing a piece connects that person’s creativity with your own life. Something they have imagined and made becomes a favourite object, a thoughtful present or a talking point at home.

The shop also offers people with disability opportunities to develop retail skills, serve customers and contribute to a working business.

There is pleasure in taking your time, enjoying a coffee and discovering something unexpected.

And if you leave with a present for yourself as well as someone else, you certainly wouldn’t be the first. Some things are simply too lovely to leave on the shelf.
