Federal Members Andrew Wallace MP (Fisher) and Ted O'Brien MP (Fairfax) have celebrated ten years of representing the Sunshine Coast in the Australian Parliament, marking a decade of service alongside family, friends, party members, volunteers and supporters at a special anniversary event at The Lakehouse Sunshine Coast on Saturday evening.
The celebration commemorated the pair's election to Federal Parliament on 2 July 2016, a milestone that has seen them work together to deliver significant investment and advocacy for the Sunshine Coast over the past decade.
The evening recognised not only their shared parliamentary journey, but also the many volunteers, supporters and community members whose dedication has underpinned their service.
Mr O'Brien said the anniversary was a reminder that public service was built on trust and community.
"It has been an incredible honour to represent Fairfax for the past ten years and to do so alongside Andrew as we have worked together to advance the interests of the Sunshine Coast," Mr O'Brien said.
"The greatest achievements are never accomplished alone. They are only possible because of the people who give their time, energy and support behind the scenes, often without recognition."
"Together we have helped deliver major transport infrastructure, strengthened our local economy and worked every day to ensure the Sunshine Coast has a strong voice in Canberra."
"As our region continues to grow, our job is far from finished. We remain committed to ensuring the Sunshine Coast continues to receive the investment and advocacy it deserves."
Mr Wallace said the milestone was an opportunity to reflect on what had been achieved together and to thank those who had stood beside them every step of the way.
"Serving the people of the Sunshine Coast has been one of the greatest privileges of my life," Mr Wallace said.
"When Ted and I were elected together in 2016, we made a commitment to work as a team for our region, and over the past decade that partnership has helped secure billions of dollars in infrastructure and community investment for the Sunshine Coast."
"This celebration wasn't really about Ted and I. It was about recognising the extraordinary volunteers, members, supporters, staff and families who have backed us over the past ten years.
Without them, none of this would have been possible."
"While we've achieved a great deal together, there is still much more to do. I remain as passionate as ever about fighting for better roads, rail, healthcare, community infrastructure and a stronger future for the people of Fisher and the wider Sunshine Coast."
Throughout the evening, guests reflected on the significant changes across the Sunshine Coast over the past decade, including major transport infrastructure, community facilities, health services and preparations for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Both Members reaffirmed their commitment to continuing to work together to ensure the Sunshine Coast remains one of Australia's best places to live, work and raise a family.
