Pride of Nambour: Wildcats to celebrate 50 years of football

The Family Fun Day will run from 1pm to 4pm on Saturday August 2 at the club’s home grounds at Nambour PCYC.

The Nambour Wildcats Soccer Club is celebrating a major milestone this year — 50 years of grassroots football, community spirit and club pride.

To mark the occasion, the club is hosting two major events: a Family Fun Day on August 2 and a Gala Night on August 9.

“We’ve had the support of a range of local businesses and it’s really boosted the morale of a club that is quite small, but big-hearted,” said Jennifer Kerwin, team manager and club registrar. “It’s been so encouraging to see how many people still care deeply about this club. That kind of backing gives us the motivation to keep building.”

The Wildcats returned ‘home’ to Nambour in 2019 thanks to the support of PCYC. “The grounds are beautiful and we’re very appreciative of the PCYC team for making it possible,” Jennifer said. “It felt like a fresh start — coming back to where we belong.”

The Family Fun Day will run from 1pm to 4pm on Saturday August 2 at the club’s home grounds at Nambour PCYC. There’ll be giant inflatables, team-run stalls, food trucks, markets, local entertainment and plenty of soccer action.

“Our goal is for the day to be for the kids and good old-fashioned family fun,” Jennifer said. “Bring a picnic blanket and settle in for an afternoon of games, laughter and community.”

The 18+ Gala Night will take place at the Nambour RSL on August 9, featuring live music, a photo booth, a two-course meal and presentations throughout the evening.

“We’d love to see former players, committee members, coaches — everyone who’s been part of the club’s journey. This is a celebration of all of us, and we can only make it happen with the community behind us,”  said Jennifer.

The club is raffling a signed Matildas jersey, donated by Football Australia and framed by Sunshine Coast Framing and Awards. “We’re so grateful — it’s a real collector’s item.”

Other raffle prizes have been donated by businesses including Nambour Landscape Supplies, JC Hire, Stihl Nambour, Erbachers, Rusty Reeves Barber, Downtown Burgers, Sunshine and Son’s, Hologram Zoo, Mitre 10 Nambour, Commercial Hotel, Ginger Factory, Uptown Hair Studio, Jenny K Beauty and Amaroo Day Spa.

Event details are available on the Nambour Wildcats Facebook page. For more information see Facebook or registrar@nambourwildcats.org.au.
