Megan marks 21 years of service at Woombye Library

Being a busy mum and health care professional has been no barrier to regular volunteering for long time local resident Megan Carter, who recently clocked up 21 years of commitment to Woombye Community Library.
Megan was inspired to take on her library role back when her two children were young and she was looking for an outside interest that would fit in with her family’s schedule. She enjoyed reading, meeting new people and talking about books so there it all began.
Megan can recall the time when the library systems were all manual, before the computerised cataloguing and borrowing software came into use, making the role so much quicker and easier. Otherwise she says the look and feel of our popular local library has remained much the same over the years.
Now having been a full time theatre nurse for many years Megan continues to relish the contrast between her professional and volunteer roles. “Most of my patients are unconscious so there’s not much chat during an average shift,” said Megan. “Work is hectic, but at the library it’s a chilled out atmosphere and you get to know regular borrowers over time and make real connections.”
Woombye Community Library remains free to join and is open Monday to Friday from 9am to midday and 2pm to 5pm. Saturday mornings we are open from 9am to midday also. You can’t miss us on the corner of Blackall St and Hill St in the front of the historic School of Arts Hall.
