In a show of typical Woombye community spirit, volunteers from St Margaret’s Parish have rallied to raise money in support of the Thargomindah community which was devastated by severe flooding early last month.
“We got to thinking that we could help out by holding fundraising sausage sizzles out the front of St Margaret’s Church over three Saturday mornings,” said Op Shop volunteer, Robyn Smith.
“We had a wonderful response and generous donations from our local businesses, Op Shop customers and community and we managed to raise just over $3,000,” she said.
Robyn will be traveling to the area early in June, when she plans to hand the cheque over to the Mayor of Bulloo Shire Council, John Ferguson.
“I am so proud of our wonderful community who have been so supportive and generous, and I am looking forward to sharing their generosity with Thargomindah locals who have been affected by the floods.”
