Woombye Snakes Football Club hosted Nambour Yandina United Football Club for the Jade’s Memorial Round and Derby Day at the Woombye Snakes Football Club on Saturday (July 19) in what was a huge afternoon of soccer.

“Jade’s Legacy has become an important time of remembrance for our Club,” said President, David Gaskin. “Jade’s family have long been members of our Club, and her twin sister, Georgia, is our current Women’s Club captain. Our community was devastated when Jade was killed in a car accident in 2018, and this day is our way to remember her.”

It was a huge afternoon of soccer that included matches between 23’s men and women’s teams and the Premier men and women’s teams.

“At the same time, a member of our Club suggested it was a great opportunity for our Clubs to take part in a blood drive, and in true competitive spirit, we ran a drive to donate blood and plasma,” he said. (Story Page 1)

“We also celebrated the opening of our new women’s change rooms, thanks to a State Government grant, and donations by local businesses and Club members.

“We have some incredible sponsors to thank for the contributions they make to our Club in general, and events like these in particular, including Ken Mills Toyota, Woombye Butchery, Heritage Bank Palmwoods and Brady’s Fruit.

“This spirit of competition and collaboration is what sport and community is all about.”
