Demolition work has begun on the site of a major five-storey childcare and early learning centre planned for Howard Street, Nambour.
Work was under way at 68–78 Howard Street on Wednesday, August 19, clearing the former commercial buildings to make way for the approved Evolution Early Learning development.
The project was first lodged with Sunshine Coast Council by Mariara Property Group Pty Ltd in June 2024 and is expected to accommodate 149 children and employ about 23 staff.
Plans show a multi-level facility incorporating much more than conventional childcare, with a food garden, cooking school, yoga and music studios, play areas and learning spaces spread across the building.
The proposal also includes 44 car parks, comprising 23 staff and 21 customer spaces.
Evolution Early Learning currently operates centres at Mooloolaba and Kuluin and promotes a model built around sustainability, healthy living and additional programs including music, yoga and environmental education.
When the Nambour plans were first unveiled, Mariara Property Group director Ara Phillips said the company believed strongly in Nambour’s potential for growth, particularly for young families.
The project has attracted ome criticism onine. But a person associated with the development said the centre would bring 23 staff into town and multimple parents and help the CBD thrive.
