A new deal provides more affordable housing
Sundale Ltd has responded to the increasing need for affordable accommodation and brokered a deal with the Queensland Government to take possession of Woombye Gardens Caravan Park and build new social housing.
Woombye Gardens Park Managers Darren and Tania McSerley said the agreement is fantastic news and they are looking forward to the improvements and new facilities being planned. The park has attracted a poor reputation in the past but the positive changes and new management is definitely converting that opinion.Darren said the need for more social housing is evident in the number of people living in their cars because they just can't afford rent, it really is tragic," Darren said. "Our residents include pensioners, single people and some of them have health problems that limit their ability to work. This agreement gives our residents peace of mind and will provide for others in the future as well."Many Coast residents are familiar with Sundale Ltd, a not-for-profit organisation with a proven capacity in providing care and facilities for the community; their success is reflected in the numerous awards they have won for providing outstanding service to the community over the past 53 years.Sundale Ltd CEO Glenn Bunney said Sundale had committed to continue to operate Woombye Gardens as a caravan/mobile home park indefinitely under a legal covenant with the Queensland Government. “We are committed to continuing to provide affordable accommodation in the park, making improvements and we are hopeful of bringing other support services online in the future, subject to the needs and preferences of residents," Mr Bunney said.Member for Glass House Andrew Powell said the deal was a great result for all involved. “Sundale has a proud history of providing affordable accommodation and services stretching back more than 50 years,” Mr Powell said. “In exchange for possession of the park, Sundale has agreed to build additional social housing in areas where it’s really needed."
