BushCare News with Norm Morwood
Pictured are Lyn and Judy, our wildlife experts, recording the various species observed or detected at our Florabunda Pocket BushCare site at Victory Park, Woombye, during our Bee on the first Saturday of the month.
Apart from the 17 human BushCarers, they recorded 42 species of birds.
Two new species have recently been sighted at the site – a Little Black Cormorant on the creek and two Russet-tailed Thrushes near the rugby shed.
A group of 10 or more Magpies, including some young ones, is often seen foraging on the grass around the ovals, while the Koel is now back from its northern holiday.
In total, more than 100 different bird species have been recorded at the site during our monthly events since 2017.
If you’d like to join us in improving local native animal habitat, our next BushCare Bees are: Gulung Gung – Wednesday, October 28 from 7am. Access is from the rear Aldi carpark via the rough track on the northern side and across the low-level bridge, or by walking across from Quota Park.
Florabunda Pocket, Woombye – Saturday, November 7 from 7am. Meet near the back rugby oval at Victory Park. Enter from Laidlaw Road through the large wire gates just before the Gymnastics Hall and follow the road to the site.
Wear long protective clothing, enclosed shoes or boots and a hat. All tools are provided.
