Never-ending weed control along Petrie Creek

As you read this in the Wednesday, September 23 edition of the SVG, we’ll be back at Gulung Gung in Nambour by Petrie Creek, heads down making room for the flourishing natives we’ve planted.

Weed control is one of our major functions in creating local native animal habitat. Pictured above are Sue, Ray, Cheryl, Paul and James clearing the edge of a major native planting and doing more weed control.

The beautiful native trees in the background do a lot of the job by shading out most of the weeds, but the edges need specific plants, such as Lomandras, and us to help.

If you’d like to join us in these “local native animal habitat” improving BushCare activities, the next opportunities at our sites are:

• Florabunda Pocket, Woombye – Saturday, October 3, from 7am. Meet near the back rugby oval in Victory Park, Woombye. Come down Laidlaw Road and turn right through the large wire mesh gates just before the Gymnastics Hall, then follow that road until you see us.

• Namba Creek – October 17, from 7am. Access is through the main gate of the Model Rail Park off Florence Street, Nambour.

To join in the action, you’ll need to come in “long everything” bush protective clothing, including boots or shoes and a hat. All tools required will be provided. Let us know you’re planning to come by emailing Norm, or just turn up on the day.
