From flowers to thread: Eudlo’s Caz Owens shares her love of free-hand embroidery

For years, locals have enjoyed the beautiful organic edible flowers grown by Organica Floret’s Caz Owens, appearing on dishes, cakes and tables across the Sunshine Coast.

Now retired from flower farming, Caz is creating gardens of a different kind - with needle and thread.

The Eudlo local is sharing her love of free-hand embroidery through relaxed weekly classes designed for anyone with basic needle and thread skills who would like to discover what more they can create, revisit skills they may not have used for years, or simply spend time making something beautiful by hand in good company.

Unlike embroidery that follows a rigid pattern, free-hand embroidery allows the maker to play with colour, texture, shape and their own ideas. Participants can bring along a piece they would like to embroider and learn from Caz as they create.

The classes are intended to be as much about connection as creativity: a chance to slow down, have a cuppa, learn something new and share a love of handmade crafts with others.

Come and meet Caz

Anyone curious about the classes is invited to an informal Meet & Greet with Caz on Wednesday, 2 September 10-12pm at Homegrown in Palmwoods.

There’s no need to commit to a class. Come along for a cuppa, meet Caz, bring an item you’d like to embroider or just see what free-hand embroidery is all about and find out how the weekly sessions will work.

Whether you’re already comfortable with a needle and thread, haven’t embroidered since you were young, or have always wanted to give it a try, you’re welcome.
