Century on the road for family’s 1925 Willys Overland

Clive Plater and the 100 year old Willy’s Overland and Clive as a child with the car in 1954.

A piece of motoring history still runs proudly in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, as a lovingly maintained 1925 Willys Overland reaches its 100th registration anniversary on November 20.

The classic American-built car was bought new by Nambour Museum President Clive Plater’s grandfather, William Bury, in 1925 and has remained in the same family ever since – an unbroken century of ownership and registration that makes it one of the oldest continuously registered vehicles in the district.

Remarkably, the Willys Overland, registration number Q45806, has never left family hands and still carries its original charm and mechanical reliability. Clive said the milestone was something his family was proud to celebrate, reflecting a lifetime of memories and care across generations.

“It’s part of our story,” he said. “We’ve kept it running, registered and loved all these years.”
