Gallery: $2.53 funding green light for streetscape investment

The Crisafulli Government is investing $2.53 million to support the Sunshine Coast Council’s delivery of the Nambour (Namba) Place Plan.
Work is expected to start next year and will include new signalised pedestrian crossing to improve safety and enhance connectivity in Nambour’s CBD. Currie Street is a main road controlled by the Queensland Government while Council has authority over the other roads in the Nambour Place streetscape revitalisation, announced in 2023.
The government says the extra funding will accelerate the project, enabling Council to deliver two stages of its revamp concurrently. It says the crossing will improve safety for pedestrians while supporting local businesses by enhancing Nambour town centre’s walkability, as part of Council’s project.
Minister for Transport and Main Roads Brent Mickelberg said the investment would enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility and support Council’s vision for a more vibrant, connected town centre.
“We’ve worked closely with Council throughout the planning process, reviewing concept designs and traffic modelling, to ensure the upgrades integrate smoothly with the state-controlled road and transport network in Nambour.”
Member for Nicklin Marty Hunt said this project would make a big difference to the Nambour CBD and community. “Locals have been calling for improvements to the Nambour streetscape for some time,” Mr Hunt said.
“And this significant investment represents a big step forward - improving safety, enhancing the look and feel of our town centre, and helping to revitalise Nambour.
"This partnership with Council builds on the strong private investment already underway - showing real confidence in Nambour and making our town more accessible and liveable.”
Sunshine Coast Council Mayor Rosanna Natoli highlighted the importance of collaboration between state and local governments.
“This funding from the Crisafulli Government is an exciting and significant boost for Nambour and will allow us to deliver key stages of the Namba Place Plan concurrently,” Mayor Natoli said.
“I want to thank the State Government, including our local MPs, for the ongoing support and partnership in helping us bring this vision of a revitalised Nambour to life.
“The new pedestrian crossing on Currie Street will not only improve safety for pedestrians but also enhance the overall accessibility and connectivity of Nambour’s town centre. This will have a significant impact on the entire local community.”
Div 10 Cr David Law said the project was the start of the implementation of a bold community-led plan to renew Nambour’s town centre.
“I would like to thank our community and local groups for working with us to develop a precinct-wide design and plan, to shape Nambour’s future,” Cr Law said.
“Starting in the first half of 2026, the transformation will bring new life to Mill and Currie streets with improved lighting, safer pedestrian crossings, upgraded footpaths, fresh landscaping, street furniture and vibrant outdoor dining spaces.
“This milestone is a long-awaited outcome for the first stage of the Namba Place Plan, and I want to thank everyone who’s contributed to help bring this vision to life.”
