‘Dirtwater Homesteading’: Columnist takes homesteading online in 2026
Racheal and Gavin Pascoe want to support people starting out on their homesteading journey.
Hinterland Homesteading with Racheal Pascoe
What a wonderful year it has been homesteading together! From the garden to the kitchen, it has all been a lot of fun. Thank you for reading my column all year. I have enjoyed writing about growing and storing food and I hope it has made some difference to your knowledge. Maybe I have inspired you to try new things!
Exciting news
My hubby Gavin and I have launched our very own homegrown Instagram page! It is called ‘Dirtwater Homesteading’ and is designed to support people starting out on their homesteading journey. It has been a natural progression, to expand and offer information on social media. If you have enjoyed reading my column and are looking for more… you are very welcome join our page and keep up to date. We are going to share information and what we get up to at home here in the garden and kitchen, growing and preparing food! We will be uploading photos and videos, sharing techniques and processes for you to follow along. Oh and yes, I am sure there will be bloopers for you to all enjoy too!
Seasonal tips
Follow along as we prepare our garden for each season, prompting and reminding you what to be planting and when. We will share hot tricks and tips for when you have too much produce and how to store food for your family. It is truly a great feeling when you have a little store of fresh food you have grown, tucked away for a rainy day.
You are the Influencer
Homesteading is a skill which is becoming more and more important with the cost of living increasing all the time. What could you be doing for yourselves at home? How could you reduce some of the costs of food etc? Could you be influencing your children or grandchildren by growing food? Next year could be the year you start your homesteading journey and learn more about being able to provide for yourself.
Nambour Market Meet and Greet
I would love to meet you all! If you are a local and would like to say hi, please come to the Nambour Markets in December. I will be there on Thursday 11th and Thursday 18th December from 9-3pm, ready to talk homesteading or just have a chat.
If you would like to bring along any old denim jeans or shorts you might like made into a gardening apron, (featured in previous column), I will be available to cut them for you or show you how to do it.
Little Gift for You
I will have a gift of a homemade shower scrub for the first 50 readers who come down to the markets and say hello.
I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I look forward to 2026 and working together to grow and store delicious, fresh food for our families. Happy homesteading everyone!
