Celebrating four decades of hospitality at Secrets on the Lake
George & Aldy Johnston “When people stay at Secrets, we are essentially welcoming them to our home.”
Since 1984, Montville couple George and Aldy Johnston have poured their hearts into their multi award winning accommodation and dining destination property, Secrets on the Lake.
Tucked away in the rainforest, overlooking Lake Baroon, Secrets has become a favourite place for visitors to get away, unwind, and relax amidst the picturesque surrounds.
“We have been told by our regular guests from all around the world, that what we have created here is absolutely unique,” Aldy said.
“From the beginning, we set out to do things our way, and that meant to embrace the stunning terrain, and offer warmth and real hospitality. When people stay at Secrets, we are essentially welcoming them to our home.”
For decades, local visitors and international travellers have returned time and again, to soak up the peace and tranquility that Secrets offers.
“Something we have noticed over the years is that people seem to relax very quickly after they arrive,” said Aldy.
“We watch as people take in the scenery and the clean mountain air. It is so restorative, and people seem to feel calm immediately.”
And the proof of the pudding is in the eating.
“We have guests that have stayed with us every year for the past 26 years,” said Aldy. “And we tend to find that when people return to stay, they extend their visit. I think it is difficult to leave!”
As well as the beautifully appointed accommodation, Secrets offers superb breakfasts and lunches on the deck, overlooking the lake.
“Dining on the Deck was a dream of mine, because I wanted to be able to treat our guests to wholesome, homemade food, made from fresh local produce,” Aldy said.
From nourishing breakfasts and leisurely lunches to indulgent homemade desserts, every dish is created with care and creativity.
“Our team is passionate about the power food has to bring people together, nourish the soul, and create lasting memories,” said Aldy, “And in fact, that celebration is what Secrets is all about.
“Whether it is a wedding, or special family milestone or gathering, a breakfast or lunch with friends, Christmas in July, or any other type of celebration, people can come here and be welcomed with warmth, comfort and beautiful food,” she said.
“People can sit and connect with and actually hear their loved ones because they are not in a noisy restaurant, and they can celebrate time together, delicious food, and the glorious rainforest and lake.
“It is our very great privilege to look after our guests, and so gratifying that they return to us to experience what we offer at Secrets.”
