Little Palmwoods neighbours celebrate birthday milestones

TWO neighbouring Palmwoods businesses are celebrating milestone anniversaries while encouraging more people to discover the town’s independent shops, cafés and gardens.

Little Miss Boho marks 10 years in business this month, while The Little Book Nook is celebrating its seventh anniversary.

Both businesses are located in Little Main Street, next to Home Grown Cafe.

Little Miss Boho owner Jackie Allen said the anniversaries were an opportunity to thank the locals and visitors who had supported the businesses over the years.

“We’re incredibly grateful for the support we’ve received from locals and visitors alike,” Jackie said. “We thought this would be a lovely opportunity to celebrate not only our businesses, but also everything that makes Palmwoods such a special place to visit.”

After many years as a registered nurse, Jackie pursued her lifelong dream of owning a boutique where customers felt welcome.

“I wanted to create more than just a shop – I wanted a place where customers could browse, chat, discover unique gifts and fashion, and feel part of the community,” she said.

Little Miss Boho began as a small gift and homewares store and has expanded into women’s fashion, accessories, baby gifts, Australian-made products and locally handcrafted items.

Jackie said its focus remained on friendly service, carefully selected products and supporting local artists and makers.

“We genuinely love helping people choose the perfect gift or outfit, and we take the time to get to know our customers,” she said.

The business will celebrate its birthday alongside The Little Book Nook with complimentary gifts for qualifying purchases, surprises and special offers.

The Little Book Nook owner Kay Nixon has worked in the book trade for much of her adult life.

“Opening my own bookshop was a way of combining my business with my passion for community,” Kay said.

Her shop offers books in a garden setting, with a café, courtyard and places for customers to sit.

“Everyday people come in not just to purchase a book but for a chat,” she said.

Kay said fewer individuals and schools were buying books than when she opened the shop seven years ago, but she remained passionate about encouraging people of all ages to read.

“Please keep reading! Support our authors and illustrators. Reading not only educates but helps develop empathy and creativity in all ages,” she said.

The Little Book Nook’s anniversary celebrations will include colouring-in activities and giveaways for children. Adults spending more than $20 can choose a free book from Kay’s treasure chest.

Both owners said Palmwoods’ vibrant village atmosphere and supportive community made it an ideal home for independent businesses.

Jackie hoped the town would continue to grow while retaining its village charm, while Kay urged residents to protect Palmwoods from overdevelopment.

“Palmwoods has a vibrant village feel about it. People take time to browse and to care for each other, ” Kay said.

Jackie said shopping locally helped keep the town vibrant and thriving.

“Thank you for choosing to shop local, supporting our dream and helping Little Miss Boho become part of the heart of Palmwoods,” she said.

To celebrate, Kay has colouring-in and giveaways for children while adults can choose a free book from her treasure chest when spending over $20.
