Montville venue to host acclaimed young international pianist in November

With its history of nurturing and showcasing young musicians, Montville’s Lucas Parklands has presented talented up and coming artists from around the world to local audiences over more than a decade.

Last month, 19 year old New Zealand pianist, Lana Ritchie wowed the audience with her masterful performance of works from some of the great composers of 1920’s and 1930’s jazz.

“Lana’s performance was extraordinary, and I am proud to say Lucas Parklands was Lana’s first professional engagement,” said venue owner, Ian Lucas.

“That and the coming November 16 recital typifies why Lee and I passionately developed Lucas Parklands; simply to give those who spend the best years of their lives in a practice room, a place to play.”

Another New Zealand pianist, Madeleine Xiao, will perform on Sunday, November 16 and the program includes Liszt-Schumann, Bach/ Busoni, Chopin, Beethoven, Fisher and Debussy.

Madeleine began learning the piano at age five. At just 19 years of age, Madeleine is in her fourth year of a Bachelor of Music undergraduate degree at the University of Auckland, has achieved numerous top awards and scholarships internationally, and has performed all over New Zealand, Australia, Italy, Germany, and the U.K.

The afternoon’s entertainment begins at 3pm, with local jazz singer, Imogen Grace performing on the deck, and Madeleine’s recital commencing at 4pm.

“The delightful similarity between Lana, Madeleine and other “Brilliant Young”, is their extraordinary willingness to prepare virtuosic repertoire selected by me (without question), travel, and play for us,” Mr Lucas said.

“They might be young however they play as well anyone. They are very professional, and their future is assured.”

Tickets are available by contacting Ian Lucas on 0409 623 228.
