Rosemount teen to dance on world stage at Blackpool
A Rosemount teenager is preparing to take on the challenge of competing at the most prestigious ballroom dancing event on the planet.
Fourteen-year-old Molly Pascoe will represent Australia at the World DanceSport Federation’s annual festival in Blackpool, England, in March. The achievement places her among an elite handful of young dancers nationwide.
“There are only six dancers going from Australia and Molly is the only one from the Sunshine Coast,” proud mum Racheal Pascoe said. “It’s the most prestigious Ballroom Dancing competition in the world.”
The event, held at the historic Winter Gardens in Blackpool from March 25 to 29, attracts the world’s top DanceSport athletes and includes GrandSlam events, World Challenge Cups and ranking competitions.
In a letter supporting Molly’s selection, DanceSport Australia General Secretary Luke Brown said the young dancer had shown “exceptional talent and dedication” throughout her career.
“Having competed locally and at a national level, she is now transitioning to international competition and training, representing Australia on the world stage,” Mr Brown wrote.
He said international competition brought significant costs, including travel, accommodation, coaching, costumes and intensive training requirements, and confirmed Molly’s registration for the 2026 festival under the auspices of the World DanceSport Federation.
Mrs Pascoe said the family was hoping local businesses might consider supporting Molly’s journey.
“It’s a feel-good story and a chance to celebrate one of our young people doing something extraordinary.”
Molly is also planning to launch an Instagram page documenting her preparation for the international competition.
