Man arrested after another Nambour CBD stabbing

Police have arrested a man after another man was stabbed on Currie Street, Nambour, about 2.30pm today (Tuesday June 24).

Queensland Ambulance Service said the victim suffered multiple wounds, including to the head, and was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a potentially life-threatening condition. Police later advised his injuries were serious but not life-threatening.

Officers were called to a licensed venue on Currie Street after reports of a stabbing. Officers were later seen at the Commercial Hotel.

Detectives allege the attacker fled on foot. Officers located a suspect in Petrie Park at 3.45pm and took him into custody. The men are believed to be known to each other.

Investigations continue and police have asked anyone with information or vision to contact Crime Stoppers.

Today’s incident comes amid long-running calls from CBD traders for stronger safety measures especially in the Lowe and Short Street precinct.

It also coincides with confirmation in the State Budget that Nicklin MP Marty Hunt has secured funding for a dedicated Police Beat and live-feed CCTV network to be installed in the same area.

The attack is the second stabbing in the CBD in months. On 1 March a 30-year-old man was hospitalised after sustaining puncture wounds from multiple stabbings in an unrelated altercation.

Mr Hunt is urging Nambour businesses to apply for funding for safety initiatives from the State Government. See story Sunshine Valley Gazette, June 25.
