Old Ambo serves up a packed September program
Nambour’s Old Ambulance Station is heading into spring with a busy September program spanning visual art, dance, live music, theatre and comedy, alongside the appointment of four new board members.
The month’s gallery program includes Voices in Colour, running from September 7–26, with an opening night on Wednesday, September 9 at 5.30pm.
The exhibition brings together artists living with disability, with works across painting, drawing and mixed media reflecting their individual experiences, imagination and craft.
Little Ambo will meanwhile host Olivia Magnusson’s installation A Moment of Mourning, exploring grief as an experience that crosses cultures, communities and individual lives.
The Black Box program begins with Grooves Guided Dance on Thursday, September 10 from 5.30pm–6.15pm. From September 18–27, 3bCreative will present a double bill of acclaimed British playwright Caryl Churchill’s Escaped Alone and What If If Only.
Live music follows with Namba Breakdown on Monday, September 21 from 6.30pm–10pm, while comedian Daniel Townes and friends will take over the Black Box on Friday, September 25 from 7.30pm–9.30pm.
The Old Ambo has also welcomed four new board members following its recent AGM: secretary Nita Childs, marketing and communications representative Cynthia Lee, Justin Law and Mauri Badra.
They join chair Anna Loren, treasurer and Black Box coordinator Ian McKenzie, Takeover producer and gallery coordinator Patricia McInerney, Pia Eccles and Nikita Fitzpatrick.
Ms Loren said the organisation remained grateful for the community support behind its activities.
“As always, we couldn’t do what we do without you, the community, and we look forward to seeing you soon at The Old Ambo,” she said.
Applications are also open for The Old Ambulance Station Gallery’s 2027 exhibition program, with proposals invited from individual artists and collectives.
