GoFundMe launched to send Sunshine Coast para sailors to Perth

Two inspirational Sunshine Coast sailors are asking for community support to get to the national stage.

Damien Hallam and Sonja Macfarlane, both members of Sailability Sunshine Coast, have been selected to compete at the 2025 Australian Para Sailing Championships in Perth on November 29–30. They will travel with support crew Kathy Hallam, Phil Sinclair and mentor Alan Winter.

The team is aiming to raise $8,000 through a GoFundMe campaign to cover travel, accommodation and transport costs. Any extra funds will go towards future competition opportunities.

Damien, a Special Olympics veteran and award-winning athlete, and Sonja, who rebuilt her life after a devastating fall in 2013, both embody resilience and determination.

“This is a chance for them to proudly represent the Sunshine Coast,” Sailability said.
