Gallery: Sixty6 Acres coastal country farmstay becomes even more accommodating
It is a new dawn for the coastal country farmstay, Sixty6 Acres Woombye, as they launch their luxury onsite dining, heated mineral plunge pools and large powered caravan and camping sites.
Situated in the heart of the Sunshine Coast, Sixty6 Acres opened in 2023 to much interest and fanfare, marrying country with style in their 2-bedroomed farm Quarters (sleeping four) and the 3-bedroomed cosy Acreage cottage with stunning outdoor bathhouse (sleeping six).
The new hilltop Farmhouse restaurant, commercial kitchen and bar continues in the same luxury theme with rich colours, designer touches and thoughtful inclusions.
With the addition of 93 powered sites, some with concrete pads and all generously proportioned with farm vistas at every turn, Sixty6 Acres delivers for an even wider range of guest who prefer to BYO caravan, camping equipment or RV. The options for large family gatherings or group bookings will only be limited by availability as the word gets out.
The current five-star reviews indicate that owners, Andrew and Jo Pitcher, have tapped into a rich vein of local, interstate and international markets looking for high quality accommodation for couples and families alike, all within a horse-shoe toss of the Sunshine Coast’s best beaches and attractions.
Classy coastal country location
According to Andrew, “in the last few years we’ve had lots of inquiry for family reunions, milestone birthdays and even yoga or corporate retreats, so The Farmhouse will accommodate these perfectly. We are very excited about the range of celebrations and special events we can now cater for in our classy coastal country location.”
Sixty6 Acres is a great example of the growing agritourism trend, combining all the animal interactions and rural vistas you’d expect from a farmstay but with a firm focus on showcasing the region’s rich agricultural history – namely pineapples and sugar cane that the Sunshine Coast was once famous for. Guests will be able to help harvest their own produce when in season and savour the fruits of their labour on site. Pineapple daiquiri, anyone?
“Many of our guests are unaware how pineapples grow, despite it being the preeminent crop in this part of the Coast since the 1950s. There is a reason they built the Big Pineapple in Woombye!” says Andrew.
Expanding into caravaning market
While the team are very conscious of not diminishing what Sixty6 Acres is all about, they are excited to expand their farmstay for the burgeoning caravaning market. This is camping, but not as we know it.
According to the Pitchers, “Holiday parks have evolved from when we were kids, but we are not looking to compete with the swim up bars and jumping pillows of some bigger operators. We grew up within two kilometres of here and are proudly family owned and operated so we bring lots of personal touches and provide a link to the area’s history. Mum and Dad were pineapple farmers in Woombye in the 60s and 70s – there are lots of photos of us as kids on the back of tractors and in pineapple crates.”
“We want guests to come see our pineapples at various stages of growth, meet our friendly, fluffy herd, or soak in the surrounds of our stunning restaurant and plunge pools. We have raised the camping experience by quite a few notches.”
“Kids literally have acres and acres to explore, leaving parents to enjoy the space and pace of farm life - relax in front of a wood burning fire, take a dip in our heated pools or have a sundowner in our deck chairs at The Farmhouse.”
Sixty6 Acres is just moments from The Big Pineapple, Wildlife HQ, Treetops, Thrill Hill and Sunshine & Sons Distillery in Woombye, or Aussie World and Amaze World at the next highway exit, with the Sunshine Coast’s best beaches and stunning hinterland just a 15 minute drive. Not many farmstays can boast that many options from their stable door.
Bikes, kayaks, donkeys, fluffy cows, horses, sheep & more
If you choose to while away your stay onsite, there are farm bikes and kayaks, a self-guided video farm tour, or you can help the team hand feed the miniature menagerie of donkeys, belted galloways (fluffy cows to the uninitiated), horses and sheep at designated feeding times. For the little farmers we have a play area and small BMX track. Head to the waterhole at dusk to try and spot a shy platypus on the property’s northern creek boundary (there have been several sightings and plenty of burrows in the bank to indicate their presence).
Current rates include Powered Sites starting from $100 a night (for 2 people), the luxury farm Quarters from $500 a night (for 4 people), or The Acreage from $650 a night (for 6 people).
Bookings open this week at sixty6acres.com with stays from mid June.
