Annual Glassies gala showcases best in local business

Gold Business award winners – Glasshouse Plantation.

Member for Glass House, Andrew Powell MP, joined local Chambers of Commerce and small businesses from across the Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay Hinterland for the 2026 Glassies Gala, the annual celebration of small business excellence in the region.

This year marked a significant milestone, celebrating 10 years of the Glassies and a decade of recognising the small businesses that keep the local economy thriving, along with the hardworking employees who serve their communities day in and day out.

Held in conjunction with Queensland Small Business Month, the Glassies Gala is the culmination of two months of nominations and public voting, shining a spotlight on the businesses and individuals who make an outstanding contribution to the region.

Tuesday night’s gala event, where this year’s winners were announced, was held at Mooloolah Valley Country Club and attracted business leaders, community members, and local supporters for one of the region’s most anticipated community events.

The 2026 awards saw more than 4,500 public votes cast and a record number of nominations submitted, making it the biggest celebration in the event’s history.

While the Silver Glassies are awarded based on public votes, the Bronze Glassies are selected by the Presidents of the local Chambers of Commerce. The prestigious Gold Glassies are personally selected by Andrew Powell MP in consultation with Chamber Presidents.

Mr Powell said the awards continue to showcase the strength, resilience, and innovation of local businesses across the electorate.

“Small businesses are the heart and soul of our community,” Mr Powell said.

“They are the people who create local jobs, support local families, sponsor community events, and help make our region such a wonderful place to live.

“These businesses deserve every bit of recognition for the enormous contribution they make to our local economy and community life.

“It was fantastic to celebrate another record-breaking year and acknowledge the people who go above and beyond for their customers and communities every single day.”

Mr Powell also thanked the many sponsors who supported this year’s event.

“A special thank you must go to the numerous sponsors who came on board to support the Glassies this year,” he said.

“This event simply would not be possible without your generosity and commitment to

supporting local business.”
